Light and Dark
- The Godfather, Star Wars and The Fast and the Furious
As a movie lover, I really haven't seen The Godfather (1972-1990) and Star Wars (1977-2005) wasn't really a "fan" because they were so old that my parents didn't even know each other in the 70's when the movie was made. Right.

Surprisingly, I watched two old films during the small long vacation. They were labeled as classic/epic/hero/magnificent. They were both series films of the same period. The godfather was crime and religion. Star Wars is indeed a science fiction. , The background of the story that seems to be completely irrelevant, but there is a similarity. The fate of the male protagonist is all in the name of love, falling from light to darkness.

The viewer's forgiveness

Darth Vader, the black warrior, represents the color - black, the grim black helmet and armor, his armor is a symbol with strong symbolic meaning, representing the dark, betrayal and cruel forces of darkness, which are also directly used in the film. The dark side represents the dark rule of the imperial chief.
Michael Corleone, the godfather, represents the color - black, always black suit, the leader of the Italian mafia, ruthless in his prime, and died alone in the courtyard of his home in Sicily.
We love both of these characters because they have all the good qualities in them, of course it's just at first, they're righteous, kind, brave, witty, all the good words you can think of to describe a hero, but tragedy is Tear up good things for people to see. Anakin went through some transitions like Mike, and the trigger was the death of the same loved ones, out of love, to protect his family, Mike started killing, Anakin started killing. The beauty of the film is that this process of transformation is shown to us, it's like seeing them holding a bowl of poison in their hands and "had to" sacrifice themselves and drink the poison, so the resonance thing is triggered.
There are also some subtle differences here. Mike once told his love Kay that he would never become like his father, but when he executed the enemy and the police officer in the small restaurant, we faintly felt some sense of revenge, and even began to hope that Mike could Successful transformation, prosperous family, in such stories, good people rob the rich to help the poor and even murder and set fire can be forgiven by the audience, and the audience forgives Mike. Anakin's transformation is even more resentful. He listened to the words of the Great Sith, was tempted and went to war with his master, and almost strangled his lover with his own hands. Anakin's corpse was replaced by a machine, and his blue eyes and expression were lost. The audience has only the slightest sympathy and pity for Anakin's transformation into the murderous Darth Vader, the poor man must have something to hate, but we don't want to forgive him.

Innocent Children

Interestingly, Darth Vader and Mike both have children.
Princess Leia is beautiful and a born fighter. Luke is righteous and smart, much like Anakin when he was young.
Mike's daughter is innocent, and his son is a passionate young man with the ideal of a musician.

The sons and daughters, without exception, are the embodiment of the good qualities of the protagonist's youth, like birds whose wings are not yet full, heralding new hope. Their common feature is simplicity and innocence, and the best word in the world is probably "innocence".

Innocence is Luke.

Luke has always believed that he can change his father. He said several times, I believe that there is some good in my father. Yes, the innocent Luke looked at his left hand when he cut off his father's left hand, and the Great Sith bewitched him to kill his father. He put away his lightsaber.

Innocence is Mary.

The girl Mary asked her father why he wanted to stop my love, but unfortunately, when he was shot, he looked at himself bleeding and fell without fear. In front of the theater, Old Mike hugged his daughter's body and wailed weakly. Then the camera switched to the scene where Old Mike rolled off a chair and died in the courtyard of his home in Sicily, as if to express that with the departure of his daughter, Old Mike's life also arrived. end.

Luke, I am your father. It is said that during the filming of this scene, the director told everyone that Darth Vader had such a line temporarily without telling everyone, which really shocked the audience.

Darth Vader couldn't bear his son luke being tortured by the old boss. He tried his best to throw the old boss into the abyss. This is Darth Vader's only right hand, and he has only a little good side. After destroying himself , Darth Vader asked luke to take off his mask to become Anakin, and finally can face his son, which is also a kind of redemption.

Will he follow his father's path? The answer is no. One of the few happy moments in "The Godfather" is when Mike is happy to see his son perform in the theater, the family is happy, and even completely ignores the dangerous assassination behind him. Mike enlightened to let his son not have to walk his own way. The father has blocked the danger, and the children do not have to face the choice between light and darkness again. The two fathers finally accepted themselves in the act of accepting that their offspring had a different path from their own, and were redeemed.
Father, in Darth Vader and Mack, who played the dual image of hero and destroyer

The life and death of religion

is the source of Western literature. Movies are fine too. Novels are fine.

"The Godfather" has too many religious rituals and scenes, and I was surprised that until the end of the classic theater assassination scene, there were also scenes of mass performances on the stage, and there was an assassination scene of Sonny's son during the mass ceremony. Mass is an important ceremony to express the rebirth of Jesus Christ, which appears subtly in the film, but every time there is mass, death must follow.

The Virgin Mary was pregnant out of wedlock and gave birth to Jesus. In "Star Wars", Anakin's mother was repeatedly mentioned as being out of wedlock and pregnant. Anakin was the chosen one born by the force of the force. For Western audiences, this is the case The arrangement is easy to understand, and heralds his fate as the Force balancer, the savior of the galaxy.

Finally, I think of Brian O'Connor.

In 2014, the male god Paul really died and bid farewell to the world, and Brian O'Connor, played by him, finally comforted the viewer's heart in the choice of light and darkness, a life from a policeman to a criminal. Probably the most irresistible role we can refuse is the bad guy who has a good side, the rogue and the undercover agent who is both good and evil. As a man, as a hero, fortunately, in the middle of light and darkness, he has not been tempted, has not suffered, and has chosen a clean and tidy choice of favor and hatred. About life, about death, Brian/Paul Walker's rather die can represent Mike and Anakin to some extent. This is also our best oath to ideals, love and family!

Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope quotes

  • Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi: I have something here for you. Your father wanted you to have this when you were old enough, but your uncle wouldn't allow it. He feared you might follow old Obi-Wan on some damn fool idealistic crusade like your father did.

    Luke Skywalker: What is it?

Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi: Your father's light saber. This is the weapon of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or random as a blaster; an elegant weapon for a more civilized age. For over a thousand generations, the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Before the dark times... before the Empire.

  • Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi: There was nothing you could have done, Luke, had you been there. You'd have been killed too, and the droids would now be in the hands of the Empire.

Luke Skywalker: I want to come with you to Alderaan. There's nothing for me here now. I want to learn the ways of the Force and become a Jedi like my father.
