Genius and Madman

Suppression, paranoia, and truth
are so shocking.
Not crazy or devilish.
This is the law of genius, cruel but confirmed by reality.

Andrew was naive at first, thinking he could win favor through hard work. He is what people think of a genius: unwilling to be mediocre.
He trusted his mentor, but was mocked, abused, and teased by him. His self-esteem collapsed, he struggled to accommodate Fletcher's demands, he endured Fletcher's unwarranted accusations, and eventually broke out.

However, his own imperfect
reality defeated him and even transformed him into a lunatic who only knew how to pursue music. Even, he competes with his mentor.
No girlfriends, relatives, friends.
Restless, irritable, crazy and tireless.

The road to becoming a top drummer is full of thorns and blood, broken hands, lost lovers, rivalry among peers, and you must always keep a clear head and plenty of energy. In the whole movie, what you see is the bloody growth of genius, not a Hollywood-like inspirational drama, you will understand that there is a price behind everything.

Can you do it? Andrew stepped on the mistakes of others, and others seized his shortcomings and became the core. The cruelty you mentioned is nothing but the most basic survival of the fittest in nature.
You have to have absolute will and reason, in order to forget the bones behind you, and to face the loneliness of no human heart. All you have is your music. You even have to face the demon that is so inflated within yourself, because you are all alone and alone; no one will be able to spot the demon that takes your life.

I don't know if this training method is right or wrong, I can only say that Andrew is lucky, he understands the love of jazz in his heart, he tried to find his love in the past, he is still ignited by the lie of his mentor to become a great drummer desire. You can say that he is stupid. From the very beginning when he refused to testify against his mentor, you can see that he still agrees with this kind of training system, and even now he is still obsessed with it.
If it were me, I hope that on the road of indulging in art, I will not forget my original intention.

He understood, to be Fletcher's Charlie.
So, instead of leaving the table in frustration, he told Fletcher to the beat of his drum, I'm your Charlie. I understand what you're doing, so I'm not the whistleblower you think. Because I, like you, have endless pursuit of dreams.
So at the end of the song, I will continue. The screen cuts back to Fletcher, and there is approval in his eyes, so he raises his hand and plays the movement.

There is such a SM training film every year. Last year was "Twelve Years of Being a Slave", and this year it is...

There is nothing to do with human nature here, there is nothing to do with good or evil, what is here is just the grasp of opportunity and one's own efforts. Anyone who is still fighting for their dreams is worth spending 107 minutes on this film. ★★★★☆

Terence Fletcher: No, man no, because the next Charlie Parker would never be discouraged.

  • Terence Fletcher: It's good to work, huh? How 'bout, uh, Caravan? Bar 105.

[the band prepares; Ryan Connolly is on the drum kit]

Terence Fletcher: Two bars for free. One, and two, and-

[Band begins to play for a moment only to be immediately cut by Fletcher]

Terence Fletcher: That's not quite right, Connolly, um-. I'd like to try Neiman on this.

[Ryan gets up from the kit and is replaced by Andrew]

Terence Fletcher: Maybe now's the time for Neiman to earn the part. One, and two, and-

[Band plays for a moment only to be cut by Fletcher again]

Terence Fletcher: Nope, I guess not. Tanner?

Terence Fletcher: Not my fucking tempo!

[to the rest of the band]

Terence Fletcher: Sorry guys, hate to put you through this. If you need to fuckin' take a dump, or get a coffee, whatever, now might be a good time because we're gonna stay here until I find a drummer who can fuckin' play in time. I apologize to the musicians. Seriously, take ten, twenty, a fuckin' hour.

    [to the drummers]

Terence Fletcher: You hear me, cocksuckers? You better start shitting me perfect four-hundreds! Connolly, get your fuckin' ass back on the kit!
