A strong individual and his fragile family (no spoilers for pure suspense films, no spoilers for this review, but characters will be discussed)

Pure suspense films are like this, there is no action, the rhythm is very slow, and the lights are turned off at every turn. Even if you haven't read the spoiler, you'll feel anxious, and after watching the ending and then watching the process, it's even more tormenting.

But I always have the bad habit of watching spoilers first, but I only watched the trailer for this movie, so when the suspect was released not long at the beginning, I couldn't hold back and watched the ending first. So I've been in a state of worrying about this group of people for the rest of the story, watching Loki take a detour (in fact, it's not too detour), Keller communicates with God, Keller's wife only knows how to cry and swallow medicine, when Alex just doesn't speak Almost insane.

The thing that struck me in the movie was the characters of Terence Howard and Viola Davis (Franklin and Nancy), the couple knew what to do and what not to do, but you could feel they were afraid to talk to them. Together with Keller, not only because they knew it was wrong, but also because they were afraid, afraid of what they might lose, such as their own spiritual changes.

I think people can always find the person closest to us quickly in a good movie. The couple have not many roles, but they are representatives of a class of people. They are kind-hearted and know how to enjoy life, but they are timid and afraid of losing, and they are more inclined to endure and then slowly resolve them in the face of suffering. Each of them is not very strong, but as long as they support each other, they can get through the difficulties.

The Kellers are another way. Men who are too big often feel that they have a great responsibility, while women are too weak and dependent. As everyone knows, no matter how strong a person is, sometimes it will not be enough, and it is always better to rely on others than to rely on yourself. So when I saw Keller praying feebly, I felt heartbroken for them.

The same misery befalls both families, but the Franklins are clearly stronger than the Kellers. Thinking about it like this, it smells like Tai Chi. Is the vulnerability of the Kellar family just because he is too powerful?

Detective Loki is the embodiment of justice, bold and careful, but unfortunately the record of never losing makes him proud and impatient, many clues should not be missed due to his carefulness (of course you know, watching Sherlock people, always I think the case will be closed in a second if it is changed to Cuifu).

Since the film begins with a prayer, the religious significance of this film is very strong, and I know very little about it, so I will not explore the correspondence of the seven deadly sins in this film. But Loki and Kellar definitely have a thing or two.

Prisoners quotes

  • [first lines]

Keller Dover: Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen.

    Ralph Dover: [shoots a deer]

  • Keller Dover: [driving along] You know the most important thing your granddad ever taught me? Hmm? Be ready. Hurricane, flood, whatever it ends up being. No more food gets delivered to the grocery store, gas stations dry up. People just turn on each other, and uh, all of a sudden all that stands between you and being dead is you.
