A movie of a real man, his quality is captivating

John Wick is positioned to be a cool film, and it makes the audience overwhelmed with revenge addiction. But unlike Kill Bill, and unlike superhero movies, the fun of this movie comes not from the blood and violence, but from the quality of a real man that John Wick exudes.

This movie has added a lot of actual combat action design, and pursues the real action in the battle process (it can only be said as much as possible, after all, the protagonist's halo). The action design, the fight scenes, the handsome male protagonist, these obvious characteristics I will not mention. What I want to talk about is the storytelling ability of this work and the setting of the protagonist full of logical conflicts.

The crash scene at the beginning uses a flashback. The movie itself is not uncommon with flashbacks at the beginning, but you must know that in a movie where the protagonist is invincible in the world, the director tells you at the beginning that the protagonist will be beaten in the end. What a wonderful suspense implantation. This suspense has been maintained until the end, and you almost always feel that this time the protagonist will definitely be defeated, but he stands up again and tells you in his ear again and again, this man, he has focus, commitment and sheer will. This delicate flashback structure at the beginning also lays the foundation for various good designs in the movie.

There is no background narration and abrupt background introductory dialogue in the film. And the movie is not set up in the real world. As the viewing time is pushed back, you will find that the world shown in the movie is more and more surreal and wonderful. The rules of the Continental Hotel, the distribution of power in the killer world, and the ubiquitous gold coins. The subtlety of the director is that no one tells you what a gold coin is, where it comes from, and why it exists, but you just seem to get it. In such a huge surreal world, the director almost never explained the background, but after reading it, I couldn't help but find out whether there is a series of novels with a complete world view behind john wick.

Besides those "disadvantages", in order to pursue realistic fighting scenes, the protagonist can't fight too supernaturally. And the invincible image of the protagonist who was paved by the Russian boss at the beginning just seemed so supernatural. In the first fight against 12 invading killers, this superman's image was slightly undervalued (I expected everyone to be wiped out in one fell swoop). And some logical flaws are not easy to explain. For example, such an awesome protagonist was beaten by a few idiots who sneaked into the house.

But about these logical shortcomings, after watching the film, I also have other insights.

The protagonist is not a hero with super powers. He will be attacked by gangsters in the middle of the night, he will be easily killed by snipers, and he will be besieged by everyone and seriously injured. He is just a man with focus, commitment and sheer will, but his infinite charm on the screen just comes from this. He was lifted to the sky, but he was knocked down by ordinary people. When you think he is nothing more than that, he stood up ordinary time and time again, slowly, without any emotion, and firmly moved towards his own Commitment to move forward. Suddenly you feel that this man doesn't need superpowers, he just exists beyond the boogyman. This is by no means a simple sentence that the protagonist has super powers and can bring the blood and hearty to people.

It's really a movie about a man who adores and captivates.

It's not a bad movie. The shootout, headshot and melee scenes are primitive and rude, with many cameos, and the jokes are very cold. Alfie Allen has become a professional householder for his son.

6/10. Every killer has an old friend, and every boss has a stupid son. The protagonist is called lovesickness and empathy, so even a dog or car is ignited to kill and abuse. Once he accepts the motives set like a dog-blood advertisement, he is a cool old-school male this year. It’s a good idea to make an action movie like this. Some sense of the game (such as earning gold coins after finishing tasks) is a bit interesting, but the gun shot always looks dull when looking up.

John Wick quotes

  • Viggo Tarasov: [calling John Wick on the telephone] Hello, John.

    [John says nothing]

Viggo Tarasov: I heard about your wife, and I'm sorry. My condolences. It's, uh, seems to be fate, or happenstance, or just bad fuckin' luck caused our paths to cross once again.

    [John says nothing]

    Viggo Tarasov: John?

    [John says nothing]

Viggo Tarasov: Let us not resort to our baser instincts and handle this like civilized men to move on...

[John hangs up mid-sentence; Viggo puts down his phone in a resigned manner]

    Avi: What'd he say?

    Viggo Tarasov: [pause] Enough.

    Avi: [quietly] Oh, God.

    Viggo Tarasov: Task your crew.

    Avi: H-how, how many?

Viggo Tarasov: How many do you have?

  • Winston: Have you thought this through? I mean, chewed down to the bone? You got out once. You dip so much as a pinky back into this pond... you may well find something reaches out... and drags you back into its depths.
