There is no Catharsis

When I was in high school, I liked to listen to metal, and I heard such a monologue at the beginning of Angels Don't Kill, which was very impressive. Later, I watched this movie by chance in graduate school, and then I realized that the monologue came from the ending. Most of the reviews for this film are so nuanced, and I don't really appreciate these overly detailed dissections. In the capitalist world, people are drawn into a wealth-first value system and cannot escape. The world does not need the financial industry or excessive production expansion. The current level of productivity has already exceeded the description in Utopia, but the world cannot stop, and the world should not be like this.

As a practitioner, I still have to say that the financial system has been overdeveloped, and the huge and complex financial industry is generally harmful to ordinary people. Some people will thank the financial system for providing them with home loans and car loans, but they never thought that in normal In the world, ordinary people simply do not need all kinds of financial products to meet their needs. my country is the only pure land left in the world, but after 40 years of pollution, it has inevitably become Americanized.

In fact, the best review of the film is Patrick Bateman's monologue at the end:

There are no more barriers to cross. All I have in common with the uncontrollable and the insane, the vicious and the evil, all the mayhem I have caused and my utter indifference toward it, I have now surpassed. My pain is constant and sharp and I do not hope for a better world for anyone. In fact, I want my pain to be inflicted on others. I want no one to escape. But even after admitting this, there is no catharsis. My punishment continues to elude me and I gain no deeper knowledge of myself. No new knowledge can be extracted from my telling. This confession has meant nothing.
