After watching American Psycho, I couldn't help but replay those scenes in the movie over and over in my head. What I realized was that evilness always existed deep inside my mind. The matter of fact that society's woes as a reflection of humanity unraveled by the movie has sickened me ever since last night. In modern society, every single subject's life has been affected by the environment surrounded, most of the times involuntarily. On a daily basis, we have to face the reality that our 'safe space' has been encroached by this ruthless society. Our lives are judged by 'standards' we have to bear, discussed with mercilessness, and compared to others like a competition. There is this scene at the end of the movie that really hits me. “THIS IS NOT AN EXIT,” says on the door behind Patrick Bateman. True, where is the exit for you and me,and everyone else? I never felt this vacuous, indifferent, and hopeless. Maybe Patrick Bateman is not the 'psycho', but this society.
