Matthew's Road to Solving the Case

Overall it's a good show and I can mention three and a half stars, especially those thoughts on the universe and religion that Matthew's character says. It deserves an extra star for this film.
The biggest problem with the film is the slow pace of the first three episodes. If the first three episodes can be condensed into two episodes, then this film may be better. I believe that many viewers who are not interested in detective subjects are likely to give up after the first two episodes.
I guess the screenwriter wants to use the previous shuffled and out-of-order plot to create suspense for the audience to follow. It's a pity that the first three episodes seemed too procrastinated because there were too many things to express. Except for the strange death state of the deceased in the first episode and the slightly attractive part of the church, the rest basically presents the style and rhythm of a detective drama in the 1990s. It is undoubtedly a big threshold for many viewers who are accustomed to watching American dramas with tight rhythm and pitfalls.
Entering the fourth episode, the style of painting suddenly changed to GTA style, and the overall rhythm became lively. It is estimated that there were too many complaints in the first three episodes.
Especially the chase section that leads to the cabin in the woods is not only tense but also full of suspense. Watching the eloquent performances of the two protagonists can't help but smile. No spoilers here.
But in the final analysis, there is nothing magical about this film. In general, it has a similar taste to the previous Nicolas Cage's "8mm".
Although he has so many shortcomings, he has done a good job of foreshadowing and character building. I won't say much about Matthew's role. This kind of role is actually relatively easier to write. Deified, then there is a story and a past, and in the end, it is very cool, and the ability bar is full to make the audience climax.

And the other male protagonist has always given him an authoritarian, lascivious, macho, impulsive image. It's obvious that he is a lecherous and authoritarian big man. He always goes out and fools around, and then his wife and colleagues are jealous. The daughter didn't give it to dating, although the episode of Che Zhen was quite Hu B. However, the detective with many shortcomings has one advantage that is crucial to promote the plot-love of children (perhaps little girls). For example, in the "farm" in the beginning, send money to the underage prostitute. This is very important for triggering the plot later. In the middle, the two young men were fighting with his daughter. The reason for his final departure, and in the end, became the key point for him to help Matthew.

This role can be said to be an important role in pulling the whole film back to a realist tone. If Matthew's partner is just a character used to replace the narration, with no character and no family, only a powerful and invincible character like Matthew is left. Then this TV series has become a third-rate fast food movie like many middle and second light novels.

If you can get through the first three episodes, you'll see the end. I believe it should give you a feeling of hair expansion. It is recommended for friends who like detective religious fantasy themes, the first episode 8 has an ending.

True Detective quotes

  • Detective Rust Cohle: This... This is what I'm talking about. This is what I mean when I'm talkin' about time, and death, and futility. All right, there are broader ideas at work, mainly what is owed between us as a society for our mutual illusions. Fourteen straight hours of staring at DB's, these are the things ya think of. You ever done that? You look in their eyes, even in a picture, doesn't matter if they're dead or alive, you can still read 'em. You know what you see? They welcomed it... Not at first, but... right there in the last instant. It's an unmistakable relief. See, cause they were afraid, and now they saw for the very first time how easy it was to just... let go. Yeah, they saw, in that last nanosecond, they saw... what they were. You, yourself, this whole big drama, it was never more than a jerry-rig of presumption and dumb will, and you could just let go. To finally know that you didn't have to hold on so tight. To realize that all your life - you know, all your love, all your hate, all your memories, all your pain - it was all the same thing. It was all the same dream, a dream that you had inside a locked room, a dream about being a person. And like a lot of dreams, there's a monster at the end of it.

  • Detective Rust Cohle: There is no such thing as forgiveness. People just have short memories.
