It's dangerous to defuse a bomb in Baghdad, but it's better than staring at a row of cereal in a US supermarket and wondering what to do. The subtitle of the title says, War is a drug, rather war is a choice. This is the choice of bomb disposal expert Jmaes. From the deafening rock music in the barracks in Baghdad, to the venting in the bathroom, to finally returning to Baghdad, unwilling to endure the boring life, and dashing to the next bomb, James's life has gone through a cycle. Some people say that the film is promoting individual heroism in the United States, and in a sense it is not wrong. Those who dare to choose their own lives are heroes.

The promotion of Avatar because of the Oscar dispute is indeed one-sided. At least in the past years of the Iraq war theme works, the bomb disposal unit can be comparable to the excerpts and revisions, and the standard is excellent. Under the slow documentary rhythm, the narrative is loose but not lengthy, and the scene scheduling is precise. The panoramic display of life on the battlefield strongly conveys the anxiety and hopelessness. It is not so much the so-called main theme, as it is because the camera is calmly aimed at the wound.

The pseudo-reality in the image concealed the nature of this "bomb game". The American soldiers were clearly domineering on other people's land, and they also beautified the bomb disposal experts as the saviors of "protecting the Iraqi people." Had it not been for the skill and characterization to be considered successful, it would have been 1 star.

The Hurt Locker quotes

  • Sergeant JT Sanborn: Maybe you shouldn't take this down. You know, we get a lot of mortars at night. You know, the plywood on the windows help with the lateral frag coming through. That's why it's up dere.

Staff Sergeant William James: Yeah, well, it's not going to stop a mortar round from coming in through the roof, you know. Besides, I like the sunshine.

  • Staff Sergeant William James: I'm too old for this shit.
