'The Bureau of Time,' a popcorn movie that could have been a classic

In the not-too-distant future, the limit of human aging is 25 years, and the natural lifespan thereafter is only one year. The common currency of society is time, which can be traded to prolong life until immortality—naturally, when time is cleared, it is death. Inflation is serious, the rich and the poor are divided, the rich are bored in leisure, and the poor die violently in the gallop. Will Salas, a young man from the bottom, was charged with unwarranted theft of time and murder.
The status quo reflected in the play is actually a true reflection of the reality of today's society. The poor work desperately, struggling to produce to feed the rich, while the rich exploit the poor with constant inflation. Some are born on the brink of death, counting time in minutes and seconds, while others are born with eternal life. The film is obviously alluding to the current plundering of the world by the big capitalists represented by Wall Street. Seeing this, I can't help but smile knowingly, this is an excellent film in which Marx's thought shines brightly! ~~
The first half of the film is a masterpiece. The difficult living conditions of people in the slums are reflected in the cold image, which is really sad, especially the scene where the mother died on the street because she couldn't sit in the car. Impressed me. But in the second half of the shoot, it obviously lost its original depth. The director did not continue to explore the root cause of all this, but instead told the story of male and female thieves robbing the bank, which seems superficial. In addition, the male protagonist is determined to break this system, but in the end there is also a way to find a fundamental change. No matter how you look at the bank robbery, it seems that the two young people are looking for excitement, so their behavior has lost its sense of sublime, and it seems a bit anticlimactic.
Such a good theme could have been made into a classic with profound practical significance, but due to anticlimactic, it has become a downright popcorn movie. It’s a pity, what a pity it’s a good theme!

In Time quotes

  • Sylvia Weis: [on the run, and seeing their wanted photos on the news] We look cute together.

  • Philippe Weis: Timekeeper. After this regrettable incident it's really not necessary for you to come in person.

Raymond Leon: I'm afraid it really *is*... Necessary.

Philippe Weis: When can we hope for a rescue?

Raymond Leon: I believe that's the point; she doesn't appear to want to be rescued.

Philippe Weis: Mr Leon... Raymond. May I call you Raymond?

    [Leon doesn't respond]

Philippe Weis: I blame myself. I invited the man into my home. He had so much time, how was I supposed to know? Of course, Sylvia brought this on herself by her lack of vigilance. That's why I always tried to keep her close. But she is clearly under Will Salas's control.

[Leon still doesn't respond. Weis examines his arm with a clock on it]

Philippe Weis: If it's a matter of resources, I'm... happy to make a contribution. It's a scandal what we pay our Timekeepers.

Raymond Leon: [Leon nods lightly in apparent agreement] I have issued a warrant for your daughter's arrest. If she contacts you and you assist her in any way, I will issue a warrant for your arrest.

Philippe Weis: [Weis stands up from behind his desk, looking slightly displeased] There's nothing I cannot buy. Now, how many of my years do you want?

Raymond Leon: There aren't enough years, even in your lifetime, Mr. Weis. Goodnight.
