This is a masterpiece of cinematic history, a true timeless classic. My favorite Hitchcock movie, personally I think it's Hitchcock's best movie. At the time of its release, the film received mixed reviews and was not widely recognized and praised. But now, on the TOP list of major film critic organizations such as IMDB and AFI, it has always maintained an upward trend, and the rankings continue to rise sharply. Therefore, it is also called the most underrated Hitchcock film by film critics. Simply speaking about the film itself, in the first 50% of the film, the suspense is steadily set up and pushed forward layer by layer, bringing us into the trajectory of the development of events. The director is slowly exerting his strength, and the film is also slowly accelerating, full of restrained tension and black temperament. In the last 40% of the film, the film enters a situation that is completely different from the style, temperament and content of the first half, full of surreal imagination and romantic love. The film was brought into a state of confusion and psychedelic out-of-control by the director. Where will everything go? In the last 10% and the first 5%, the director neatly revealed the suspense in an instant, and overturned 90% of the plot in the first part of the film in a flash, which made the audience realize it and brought incomparable shock at the same time. It can be said that in 95% of the film's time so far, the director is weaving a dream for us, a colorful dream full of suspense and fantasy. The movie can now end. However, the director did not give up. The last 5% of the film, the additional 5% that can be omitted, is the real magic touch, and it is also a bargaining chip for the film to be elevated to a classic among the classics. Because, in this 5%, our suspense master personally crushed the dream he carefully weaved before! So, it's a tragedy.
