The story is very insightful and profound.

Emotional puppet masters can inject soul into puppets, but they are unable to express themselves in the real world and are unhappy.

In a normal office building, there is a low 7 1/2 floor that feels strange, oppressive, uncomfortable.

The puppeteer stumbles upon a passageway that could become a celebrity Markovic on the 7 1/2 floor. In order to gain the love of his beloved, he was willing to take Markovic's skin and discard himself forever. It seems that he has manipulated Markovic, but he is manipulated by his beloved.

After experiencing being Malkovich, the puppeteer's wife discovers the side she wants to be male.

The puppet master's boss actually discovered this magical passage long ago. Continue to gain immortality through the channel.

And Markovic himself, through the channel of being himself, discovers that everyone in his life is himself, and is horrified to project his narcissistic self.

The puppeteer loves people who don't use the channel. She uses the channel to make money, and uses the puppeteer who became Markovic to get the fame and fortune she wants and the life she wants.

It's a Lacanian fable! "I" (the subject of consciousness) is an other, a puppet, and must become the other/receive castration in order to leave the universe of "nothing outside of me" and enter the world of language. The ultimate enjoyment must also give up the obsession of the subject and proceed to the position of the other. We are puppeteers and puppets at the same time.

Being John Malkovich quotes

  • Craig Schwartz: I was inside John Malkovich - lookin' out.

  • Lotte Schwartz: I've been going over and over my experience last night, Craig. It was amazing. I've decided - that I'm a transsexual. I know! It's the craziest thing, Craig!

Craig Schwartz: What are you fuckin' nuts!

Lotte Schwartz: No, it's just that for the first time everything just felt right! I've got to make sure. But, if the feeling is still there, I'm gonna talk to Dr. Feldman about sexual reassignment surgery.

Craig Schwartz: Listen, this is absurd! Besides, Feldman is an allergist. If you're going to do something, do it right! We've talked about this plenty of times. Alright, you get these half-ass ideas and then you do a half-assed job. Just drop it!

Lotte Schwartz: It's just that I really, you know, I like Dr. Feldman. Alright? So, I thought that I would ask him his opinion. What - is there something so terrible about that? Why are you always yelling at me like this?

Craig Schwartz: Baby, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. It's just a phase. It's a phase of seeing through somebody else's eyes. Okay? It'll pass.

Lotte Schwartz: Don't stand in the way of my actualization as a man.
