Every year at the festival, there are reruns of Hitchcock's films. Went to North by Northwest this year. Old-fashioned action movies are not really characterized by action. Fifty years later, the exciting part of the year, and now I feel that it really is for the middle-aged and elderly Cary Grant....Old Gary is an old-style male star. Keep your suit straight all the way, with humor and demeanor at all times. Now the male star still has this taste is George Clooney. North by Northwest, as an old-style crime thriller, maintains the elegance of the whole film. Slow criminals (all kinds of murders without blood), humorous FBI directors, each with their own rants... It feels like they all have a lot of leeway to maintain their demeanor.
