The vanilla sky is the most dreamlike imagery I've ever seen. The sky full of moisture, the sunlight crushed by thin clouds, and a few twilights in the faint purple. There are no overly bright colors and no overly intense light in all spaces throughout the film, just like in a deep dream.
This dream is a dream of a frustrated person, about a love that has been missed by each other. He was a sad fragment of her life, frozen in her youth. And she was the only sweet dream in his long, slumbering life, dead forever when he woke up 150 years later. He was gone and she was alive; he woke up and she was gone. In a dream, the subconscious constantly intrudes and controls the dream, projecting the deepest desires of the human heart into the dream. What he thought about in the center of reality, but missed it, became clearly visible in the dream.
On a wet morning, he got into the car. Such an ordinary move caused him to lose the most important thing in his life due to a car accident: his face, his true love at his fingertips. Just a little bit, he can get that love; just a little bit, he can avoid this cruel fate. But because people can't predict the future, those little bits tear open the most tragic part of life.
He closed himself off in complete solitude. In order to make up for his regrets in the dream, he signed an agreement with the "Life Continue" company to freeze himself and enjoy the satisfaction brought by the dream in a deep sleep.
But such a dream would also make him uneasy. In his sweet dreams, there are often flashes of his worst fears. Like Julie, like that twisted, shaking face. So, in order to eliminate the fear, he mistakenly killed Sophia who brought him beauty in his beautiful dream. And Sophia's death means that his dream has collapsed. A dream without troubles is disturbing because it is not real and will be lost eventually, just like his once carefree life. Therefore, he chose to commit suicide by jumping off a building in a dream, choosing to open his eyes and embrace the real, imperfect world.
