In 1992, "Alien 3" was released. The director is neither Ridley Scott nor James Cameron, but David Fincher. The original script of "Alien 3" looks like a cold war in space, except that the nuclear war is replaced by a genetically mutated alien. The film was originally scheduled to be directed by New Zealand director Vincent Ward. Ward thought of a unique idea while flying on the plane: Ripley's spacecraft crashed into outer space on a planet inhabited by ascetics, and was rejected by them. There are furnaces and windmill houses on the planet, but no weapons. But in the end, Ward lost interest in "Alien" due to the disagreement with Walter Hill. So David Fincher took over the film.
After the first and second installments, the audience will more or less understand the aliens. Naturally, the novelty of the first contact with aliens will be reduced, so if there is no new idea in the third part, the audience's desire to appreciate it will inevitably decrease. So David Fincher made a new creative idea for the film. The focus of the film is not on the aliens, but more attention to the encounters of the characters. People can think of the appearance of aliens from the small details provided by the film, such as the traces left after corrosion, and the different reactions of the dog. Therefore, the film only regards the alien as a clue process for the development of the general plot, but more for the audience to pay attention to the fate of the protagonist. Focusing on how humans can overcome their inner fears, David Fincher showed us a new alien world, and for the first time added religious elements to the "Alien" series.
Because the script was not ideal, Giller and Hill had to re-provide an emergency script, but the debate about the film did not stop. Instead, the relationship between Finch and Hill and Giller began to break. Hill believes that the cost of shooting a film should be budgeted first, and the redundant parts of the film should be omitted. But Finch believes that in order to ensure the successful shooting of the film, the producer should provide sufficient funds. The difference in opinions makes the relationship between the two parties worse and worse. Perhaps in the eyes of Hill and Giller, Finch is just a 28-year-old boy who has photographed Nike ads.
Once, Giller had a phone call with Fox Films, and he said, "Why do you listen to him, he is just a shoe seller!" The shooting of "Alien" took 16 and a half weeks, and "Alien 2" took 18 Zhou, but the producer required the filming of "Alien 3" to be completed within 13 weeks. Various reasons make the quality of this film greatly compromised. The serious tragedy and the immaturity of the director's skills made "Alien 3" rated as the most failed one in the "Alien" series.
