Polanski's new work won the Venice Jury Prize. The film focuses on Colonel Picard, who pleaded guilty to the Dreyfus case, and vividly reproduces this major historical event in the public opinion and judicial circles. Stories of individuals fighting against systems of power are never out of date. Polanski is very calm and restrained, and basically can't fault it. Jean Dujardin's performance is as exquisite as ever. PS: Clemenceau, who fought together for Dreyfus in the film, is the French Prime Minister who signed the "Peace of Versailles" more than 20 years later. (8.0/10)

It starts off as smooth as a classic spy drama, starts off with a super-long flashback and gets to the point, but also gets caught up in endless arguments, trials, crime and punishment, and silent indictments. An ordinary person does not fight against a machine for himself. This kind of story has been rewritten repeatedly. There is nothing new here, but it is extremely realistic, and it is a good portrayal of corrupt institutions and power. Most of the time, it is a portrait in the medium and close range, but it does not lose the due details, such as a check-in at the door. There may be emotions, but there is no entrance, and I don’t want to be detected. My complaint is more like a retrospective of the ethnic issues in the pianist family, rather than a copy of the director’s current self-imprisonment. Probably Despra's more leisurely soundtrack.
