"Binxu" successfully shows the integration process of Christianity and Roman culture. The struggle between Binxu and Marcella is a contest between two cultures. The former represents the trendy Christian culture, the latter is the maintainer of the original culture of ancient Rome, and the death of the latter shows that the old things are always going to disappear. In a deep sense, "Binxu" also carries the Cold War complex of American politics.
In a handful of calculations, the Oscars won by MGM are not many, and most of them were won in the 1940s and 1950s, while "Benxu" is an odd number. It was nominated for 12 items. Winning 11 awards can be regarded as the peak work of MGM Films. Its magnificent scenery and grand and majestic war scenes really please the audience, so it is regarded as a masterpiece in the history of shadows.
This film was adapted from a biblical story in 1959. It is magnificent and magnificent. It is one of the most spectacular films in history.

Watching "The Celluloid Closet" today and found Gore Vidal personally confirming Ben-Hur and Messala's relationship. The movie is long, but not verbose

Ben-Hur quotes

  • Quintus Arrius: [a galley's 200 rowers are gradually told to increase their pace] Battle speed!... Attack speed!... Ramming speed!

  • [first lines and off-screen]

Balthasar: [narrating, off screen] In the Year of our Lord, Judea - for nearly a century - had lain under the mastery of Rome. In the seventh year of the reign of Augustus Caesar, an imperial decree ordered every Judean each to return to his place of birth to be counted and taxed. The converging ways of many of them led to the gates of their capital city, Jerusalem, the troubled heart of their land. The old city was dominated by the fortress of Antonia, the seat of Roman power, and by the great golden temple, the outward sign of an inward and imperishable faith. Even while they obeyed the will of Caesar, the people clung proudly to their ancient heritage, always remembering the promise of their prophets that one day there would be born among them a redeemer to bring them salvation and perfect freedom.
