- The film is the first feature film directed by Harold Remis.
- Bill Murray improvised a series of "Cinderella"-style stories in the audition and was selected by the director into the crew.
- The scene where the famous Ty Webb's golf ball hits Carl Spackler's crumbling house does not exist in the original script. This is the director who realized that there are no two comedy superstars Chevy Chase and Bill Murray appearing at the same time in the film and specially added it. It was written by the three at lunch. Although it seems to have nothing to do with the whole idea, this scene is widely regarded as the most funny part of the whole film.
- Cindy Morgan, the actor of Lacy Underall, said that the Chevy Chase massage session in the film was also an improvisation.
- Brian Doyle-Murray, who plays Lou, is one of the film's screenwriters and the only person on the crew who can be called a "caddy".
Caddyshack behind the scenes gags

Carl Spackler: This is a hybrid. This is a cross of bluegrass, Kentucky bluegrass, featherbed bench and northern California sinsemilla. The amazing stuff about this is that you can play 36 holes on it in the afternoon, take it home and just get stoned to the bejesus belt that night on this stuff. I got pounds of this stuff. Here.
Ty Webb: No, thank you. I don't, I don't, eh...
Carl Spackler: Say, let's have a little bit of this. I made a big Bob Marley joint. Look at this. Try this
Ty Webb: Carl, I really don't do this very often.
Carl Spackler: You'll love it. This is dynamite. Watch out for this.
Ty Webb: Well, maybe one drag.

Al Czervik: I should have stayed home and played with myself!
