In May 1954, producer and director Gregory Letoff purchased part of the copyright of the novel "Casino Royale" from Ian Fleming, and it took six months to produce and broadcast it with CBS A one-hour TV series "Iron King Sweeping Casino Royale" was released. Before the copyright was sold, the novel "Casino Royale" was unsuccessful. Before the paperback edition was published, the novel even changed the name of the novel and revised some of the content to make it more American, in order to win the favor of North American readers. At that time, Fleming also desperately needs the income from those publications. One year after the TV series was broadcast, Letov added another six thousand dollars to the original price, completely buying the copyright of "Casino Royale". The two copyright sales were later considered too low prices, and Ian Fleming himself regretted it. Of course, the first thing he did after receiving the copyright fee was to buy himself a Thunderbird car worth three thousand dollars. After Gregory Letoff died on December 14, 1960, his widow resold the copyright of Casino Royale to Charles K. Feldman in 1961 for $75,000. Feldman produced and filmed a funny version of "Casino Royale" () in 1967. Due to the absurd plot of the film, it was not officially included in the 007 series of movies.
In 1999, MGM paid 10 million U.S. dollars to Sony to obtain the copyright of Casino Royale. Soon, MGM brought Sony to court in a lawsuit, accusing Sony of infringing on Bond's copyright, violating the agreement to film "Casino Royale," and demanding compensation of 40 million U.S. dollars. In the end, Sony paid MGM five million dollars in compensation and transferred all the copyrights related to "Casino Royale" to MGM.

Casino Royale quotes

  • Alex Dimitrios: I'm having a hard time seeing how this is my fault. It's your plan. All I did was get you the man.

Le Chiffre: A man who was under surveillance by the British Secret Service. Which makes me wonder if I can trust you at all.

Alex Dimitrios: Then don't. I couldn't care less. But I do care about my reputation. I have someone else willing to do the job. He just needs the particulars, and payment.

  • Doctor #1: [to Bond, who is going into cardiac arrest with M listening] Stay calm and don't interrupt. Because you'll be dead within two minutes unless you do exactly what I tell you.

James Bond: [breathing slowly, siting in his Aston Martin] I'm all ears.
