First Reformed movie plot

A priest caught in a deep crisis of faith tries to use extreme means to save the world. The question posed by Schrader is really poignant, why didn't God save the world, and why did God let this God's spokesman also suffer from cancer. How can this problem be solved. The ending really is "Eternal Feminine, Lead Us Ascension". By adding environmental themes, Schrader brought the script to life. What surprised me was that Schrader, who has always been considered to be good at script, gave a very good guidance this time. Whether it was the gloomy tone or the weird camera position, it gave people a great sense of depression. The long push at the beginning until the white church fills the frame, you can't even tell if it's a First Reformed or a terrifying tombstone. The film is full of enclosed spaces with eerie tones, such as toilets. Looking at it, I was really frightened, and my back was chilled.

The combination of religious and environmental themes is probably the one I hate the most. But Ethan Hawke's performance saved some.

Jason: If happiness came in pill size, it would have JC stamped on it.
-
Jake: I just get tired of "turn the other cheek." Jesus didn't turn the other cheek. Why stand for anything? Take prayer out of the schools. Give money to people too lazy to work for it. And whatever you do, don't offend the Muslims.
