Amy Heckerling, a director who is a single mother, wrote the script of "I Could Never Be Your Woman" based on his work and love experience. But the script didn't get the attention of the film company boss at the beginning, and it was kept in dust for six years. After reading the script, Michelle Marie Pfeiffer immediately asked her agent to find a producer for the film. A major theme of "I Could Never Be Your Woman" is the fear of aging women in Western society, especially in Hollywood; women dating men younger than themselves are also regarded as strange.
Paul Rudd had already collaborated with Amy Heckerling in " Clueless " in 1995 , and Amy had decided that Paul was the best choice for the male protagonist when he wrote the script. In the role of Rosie’s daughter Iz, in order to match the ironic style of the film, the casting staff hopes to find a different child. In fact, they wanted to use Sersh from Ireland early on.
Since the film was shot in London, the production company spent a lot of money to "recreate" a Los Angeles in London. The film crew first took six weeks of shooting at Pinewood studios and the streets of London, and then spent three weeks shooting the factory scenes in Los Angeles
