In Calcutta, full of music and joyous crowds, a 7-month pregnant woman stands alone in a dimly lit place. This woman is named Vidya (played by Vidya Balan). She is thin and lonely. When she came to this strange city, she had only one goal-to find her long-lost husband. Everyone is convinced of her husband’s disappearance, and even she herself has no definite evidence that her husband is still alive, but deep down, Vidia doesn’t believe in the fact that her husband is no longer there, let alone those responsible for handling it. With the fragmentary evidence on hand, the personnel involved in the disappearance of her husband decided to find her husband on her own. However, as the investigation deepened, Vidia found that she seemed to be the one kept in the dark, and the truth was so remote and cruel.

The opening is quite a Japanese mystery layout, and then quickly evolved into a Hollywood standard suspense plot, the setting of amateur detectives vs national-level conspiracies. There are quite a few early reversals, but that's the level of reversals that often occur in Deaver's novels. Usually, I don't expect any original elements when such a big conspiracy occurs, but the reversal of the ending is quite exciting, the laying out of the lines is very solid, and the final recovery of the lines is also great. An unexpected masterpiece.
