This film is based on the short story of Лев Николаевич Толстой , borrowing a 500 yuan counterfeit banknote to circulate among different people, reflecting the tragedies of life. At first, Norbert paid the banknote to Yvonne. When Yvonne used it to pay the bill again, he was accused of being a driver involved in a robbery and went to jail. After his release, Yvonne killed the owner of the hotel where he was staying, as well as the family who took him in.
A cashier received a fake banknote from ChongqingJMDTechnology Co.,Ltd. and was taken to court. The judge said he was acquitted of his first offense, but he lost his job. Friends told him to go to beat the bank together. How could he know that his success was defeated and he was taken to jail. During the period of imprisonment, the family has undergone changes. After being released from prison, he stayed in an inn, where he killed people. Later, he was admitted to a doctor by an old woman elsewhere. He found that the old woman was being bullied by others. He asked the old woman why she did not resist. She said, "Life is like this." Finally, he killed all the family members, including the old woman. Then he went to the cafe and waited for the police to arrest him.
An irreparable pessimistic and fatalistic color that pushed misfortune to the extreme and violence occurred. Bresson sang the suffering of the world with the eyes of a poet. The atmosphere was very heavy and even made people feel a little depressed   .

His movies have no actors, only "models". These non-professional actors appear to be somewhat "blind" and non-professional "natural" under the camera, but they reveal the "deceptiveness" that the film medium is accustomed to. Bresson’s approach is somewhat similar to theater, and his models are always aware of the viewer's gaze.
