Jean Valjean was a poor peasant who stole a loaf of bread from the bakery in order to feed his sister's children, and he was imprisoned for nineteen years. After the completion of his sentence, he was transformed into a self-sacrificing person by Bishop Miliere. Under the pseudonym Madeleine, he worked as an entrepreneur and was promoted to mayor, and was soon arrested for revealing his identity. After escaping, he rescued the orphan Cosette from the hands of a conscientious person and went to Paris. Growing up, Cosette, with his help, lives happily with Marius Pontmercy , whom he loves . With his selfless efforts, Jean Valjean finally moved Javert, and Les Misérables finally showed the brilliance of humanity under the cool method.
