Leonardo Shelby (Guy Pierce) has only one goal in life, and that is to avenge the murderer of his wife.
It turns out that a few days ago, the newly married Shelby couple was attacked by a gangster who brutally killed Leonardo’s wife. Although Leonardo himself struggled back from the death line, he He suffered from a strange kind of "short-term memory loss" because of severe brain damage. From then on, he could only remember what happened ten minutes ago. Although in the eyes of the police, this is an ordinary robbery that happens every day, Lenny's life has been completely changed. Dissatisfied with the police's hastily closing the case, Lenny vowed to track down the murderer and avenge the tragic death of his wife. However, the fragmented memory makes Leonardo difficult. He can only recall bits and pieces of the past by relying on small pieces such as tattoos and Polaroid snapshots. Moreover, whenever he finds some valuable clues, He must use all methods to record it immediately, because it is likely that after ten minutes, he will not be able to remember where he is or what he is doing.
The investigation is going on with difficulty. Leonardo meets Natalia (Kerry Anne Moss), a vulgar barmaid who seems to know something that Leonardo is interested in, and one who claims to be him. The guy named Teddy (Joe Pantogliano) who used to be a good friend, but he looks sneaky, as if being malicious, who can be trusted, Natalia? Teddy? Or is he himself? Where will those memories that continue to show up lead themselves to? Leonardo was in confusion.

Revisit. It is not appropriate to say that using editing and filming techniques to turn a general story into a magical. Nolan uses positive and negative narration, black and white conversion to smash the story into countless pieces, making the audience feel like Guy Pearce suffering from amnesia, and allowing the audience to regain their exclusive perspective of God during the progress of the plot, thereby making the audience in a state of amnesia. The protagonist has empathy. But the movie itself seems a little constrained to show this technique.

It turns out that deconstruction is to repeat a simple thing until you don't understand it, and then give you the feeling of sudden realization. . . The test is the ability of post-editing.

Memento quotes

  • Leonard Shelby: I have to believe in a world outside my own mind. I have to believe that my actions still have meaning, even if I can't remember them. I have to believe that when my eyes are closed, the world's still there. Do I believe the world's still there? Is it still out there?... Yeah. We all need mirrors to remind ourselves who we are. I'm no different.

  • Leonard Shelby: I was the only guy who disagreed with the cops - and I had brain damage.
