The most well-known B-17 "Flying Fortress" bomber in World War II was the "Memphis Belle". It performed 25 bombing missions over the German border. During this period, 9 engines, two main wings, two vertical tails, and two main wings were changed. Wheels and more. She is a star in Hollywood movies, newsreels, newspapers, books and textbooks. The historic aircraft is carefully guarded by the National Museum of United States Air Force at Wright Peterson Air Force Base near Dayton, Ohio . It wasn't just a plane, behind her was a group of men who flew, fought and died in the skies of the Third Reich, and she and her crew were part of the European air war. More than 52,000 bombers were used to bomb Germany in order to weaken the ability of a powerful enemy to conduct war. Among them were several American bombers. The most common are the B-17 Bomber , B-24 Liberator.
