- This is the first movie starring Will Smith three and a half years after "Seven Pounds" in 2008. This span also set the longest "downtime" since he joined the industry in 1993.
- In the film, J travels to find young K 43 years ago. And Josh Brolin, who played the young K in the film, was only 21 years and 5 months younger than Tommy Lee Jones who played the older version of K.
- This is the sequel to the second episode 3 produced by Steven Spielberg. The previous one is "Transformers 3".
- David Cape originally wanted to write the script for "Men in Black 2", but he failed to make it. Later, he wrote the script for "Spider-Man." It was not until "Men in Black 3" that the wish was fulfilled.
