The independent film production company Fox Searchlight admires George Tillman Jr.'s talents and has always wanted to find an opportunity to collaborate with Tillman on a film. Because the life story of The Notorious BIG is very contagious, Tillman proposed to put Notorious BIG's life on the big screen.
Fox Searchlight hired Notorious BIG’s mother, Valetta Wallace, Notorious BIG’s former music manager Mark Pitts, and the bragging father to be the producers of the film. Ricky Rock Byswood Co-wrote the script with Chen Hodge Kirk.
At the beginning of October 2007, the film began a long casting work. In order to find suitable actors to star in Notorious BIG, Fox Searchlight has launched a nationwide audition campaign. When Jamal Ullard walked into the casting room to greet Ms. Veletta, Ms. Veletta thought he was her son, Notorious BIG, and director George Tillman Jr. thought he would not perform. Finally, Jamal Ullad got the opportunity to play Notorious BIG at the insistence of Ms. Villeta .

The best biographical film of this type I've seen. Of course, part of the reason for this is that he likes Biggie. But it is undeniable that every aspect of this movie is in place... Five star, MuthaFucka

Notorious quotes

  • Ending Title Card: Christopher Wallace, a.k.a. The Notorious B.I.G., did not live to see the release of his second album. That album, "Life After Death," went on to sell 10 million copies worldwide. With his success, he proved that no dream is too big. The sky is the limit.

  • Voletta Wallace: [voiceover / last lines] My son, Christopher Wallace, told stories. Some of them were funny, some of them were sad, some of them were violent, but people listened. I'm saddened that his life was cut down at the age of 24... but I find solace in knowing that he became a man, and he was ready to live. As I looked out at all those faces; something happened. Someone in the crowd turned on their radio, and I could hear my son's voice!
