Papillon is Henry Charlie's nickname, nicknamed after the butterfly-shaped tattoo on his chest. In 1930, Henry Charlier was charged with killing a pimp and was arrested and imprisoned. He was also charged with fraud and other crimes. Henry Charlie was exiled to a forced labor camp called "Devil's Island" in Guyana to serve his life sentence. The island is surrounded by water, and you can often see big sharks swimming in the water. In this wild area, diseases are spreading everywhere. Day and night work has caused 90% of hard labor to survive and die before the end of the sentence. Henry Charrell always believed that he was wronged. In order to clean up his charges, he started planning to escape from the first day he set foot on the "Devil's Island", but unfortunately, he failed to escape for the first time. The captured Henry Charrell was kept in solitary confinement in a damp, narrow trumpet. The loneliness, the absence of sunlight all day long, and the infestation of parasites almost made Henry Charlier nervous. Henry Charrell was released only 1440 days later, and all this prompted Henry Charrell to strengthen his determination to escape. He escaped from prison time and time again, and was caught back again and again. After more than ten years, his hair is white, but he still desperately jumped into the sea holding a bag of coconut shells to escape.
