The film was finalized in June 1996. Due to the strict classification system of the Motion Picture Association of America, Craven's post-editing took up to two months. If Craven can't cut or weaken the extremely bloody and violent scenes in the film, the film will be rated as NC-17, which means that the box office is in desperation, because movie theaters and retailers are unwilling to purchase NC-17 films. Dimen Pictures tried their best to strive for R grade, but they knew that the film would lose key elements and the quality would be greatly reduced. As the release date approached, the anxious Bob Weinstein began to negotiate with the Film Association. He believed that the association had misunderstood the film. In addition to violence and blood, the film also has comedy and satire elements, and the association paid too much attention to horror elements.
