The film was finalized in June 1996. Due to the strict classification system of the Motion Picture Association of America, Craven's post-editing took up to two months. If Craven can't cut or weaken the extremely bloody and violent scenes in the film, the film will be rated as NC-17, which means that the box office is in desperation, because movie theaters and retailers are unwilling to purchase NC-17 films. Dimen Pictures tried their best to strive for R grade, but they knew that the film would lose key elements and the quality would be greatly reduced. As the release date approached, the anxious Bob Weinstein began to negotiate with the Film Association. He believed that the association had misunderstood the film. In addition to violence and blood, the film also has comedy and satire elements, and the association paid too much attention to horror elements. "Scream" is by no means a movie that promotes violence. After re-examination by the Film Association, the film was finally rated as R-rated.

This film takes the rich thriller genre as the main theme, and plays a variety of thriller formulas. All the essential elements of a thriller, such as murder, from the door, the phone, the wardrobe, and even the classic "scream" scene, can be said to have everything. Although ostensibly a counterpoint to thrillers, it's still inseparable from the way Wes Craven handled thrillers in the 1980s.

"Where's God," etc. Completely suicidal. One day she snaps. She wants to kill herself but she realizes out that teen suicide is out this year and homicide is a much healthier, therapeutic expression.
