Starship Troopers Negative Evaluation of

The film faithfully represents Heinlein's militarism, the national consciousness of the boss, and killing a friend before insects eat him is the most noble value. The subconscious mind is the most interesting aspect of this film. ()
The word "spider" was described in the movie very contemptuously, and it began to sound like "Iraqis", and indeed, we soon saw the elite group in the bug being suppressed in their desert fortress and resisting stubbornly. A powerful attack from foreign allies. As you can imagine at the end of the story, the leader of the bug was discovered. (by)
The movie "Starship Paratrooper" is actually a far cry from its original novel. Van Hewen seriously misinterpreted Heinlein's original work, turning a serious and thoughtful science fiction masterpiece into a flashy kitsch "fast food".
The most fundamental difference between film and novel is that although the novel belongs to the subject of interstellar war, the focus of the writer's story is not war, but the harsh test that the young protagonist undergoes in order to obtain citizenship. In many of Heinlein's novels, there is an image of a strict father that occupies the core position of the novel. "Starship Paratrooper" is no exception, and there are even many such images. They are actually the author’s spokespersons. Through their words and deeds, the author expresses his unique thoughts and views on Western politics and social life freely. But all of this has been downplayed in the movie. Van Hewen focused on the bloody battle between the more powerful humans and the "bugs" races. This positioning greatly reduces the ideological nature of the film. ()

Starship Troopers quotes

  • Johnny Rico: Never surrender. Never retreat. Never give up.

  • Jean Rasczak: Rico. What is the moral difference, if any, between a civilian and a citizen?

Johnny Rico: A citizen accepts personal responsibility for the safety and the body politic defending it with his life. A civilian does not.

Jean Rasczak: The exact words of the textbook. But do you understand it? Do you believe it?

    Johnny Rico: I don't know.

Jean Rasczak: No, of course you don't. I doubt anyone here would recognize civic virtue even if it reached up and bit you in the ass!
