Filming of the film started on January 8, 1984, and the film’s opening prologue and subtitles were filmed at a cost of $1 million. During the 3 months of shooting, Helen Schlacter had to train for 3 hours a day, because she had to be hoisted from a 200-foot-tall tower crane to take flight shots. The town of Midwell in the movie was built on the open space in the backyard of the British Pinewood Studios. 85% of the entire film of "Superman" was filmed in the Pinewood Studios. It took 22 consecutive working days for the ruined scene to be filmed. After the filming was completed, Warner had the copyright, but because of the production of "Superman3", Warner had to shelve the film first. Later, Samsung decided to buy it and reduced the film length from the original 126 minutes to 105 minutes.
