- In order to regain his body shape, Schwarzenegger had six months of physical training before filming the film and exercised for 3 hours a day.
- Boyd Holbrook and Jay Courtney were the final two candidates to play Kyle Rees. After numerous auditions, Jay Courtney was selected.
- According to screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis, the film script was inspired by "Back to the Future 2". Another part was inspired by "Star Trek" (2009).
