According to the vision of producer Stephen J. Cannell, the film version of "Dragon Attack" should have a similar temperament and atmosphere to the TV series. Because in the face of such a classic and popular TV series, any drastic changes will destroy the image of this TV series in the hearts of the audience. According to this production line of thought, Frank Rupp, one of the screenwriters of the original TV series that Kannell recruited, participated in the writing of the movie version of the script. The plot of the film is similar to that of the TV series. It is about the members of the "Dragon Assault Team" who have suffered unjustified injustices and successfully escaped from prison, then they have to wash their grievances and fight for "justice."
The crew set the location in Vancouver. Compared to the United States, Vancouver is a relatively conservative and quiet city without too many skyscrapers and modern transportation. So it presents a feeling of retro and old age. And this feeling was shown in the TV series "Dragon Attack Squad" in the 1980s.
In order to be as different as possible from the film at the time in terms of visual effects, the crew used a lot of gunpowder in the film to create a real explosion scene. Of course, there will be computer technology. For example, the shots of the tanks from the plane are made by computers, but CGI is not the dominant one.
In addition to visually pursuing the style of the 1980s, the film’s funny elements also imitate the signs of TV dramas—the use of those "cold humor" elements adds to the film’s nostalgic elements in addition to being funny.
