In Berlin in 1940, Bruno, an eight-year-old boy, returned home after playing outside with his classmates and found that the family was very busy. It turned out that his father, who was a Nazi officer, was promoted and was about to be dispatched, and his mother was preparing for a party. It's just that Bruno is not happy at all. His father's new position is in a Nazi concentration camp in Poland. The whole family has to move there, so he has to leave his beloved home and friends.
Bruno had difficulty adapting to the new living environment at first, and soon became bored. He has no peers to play with, and his mother forbids him to walk around. But my sister never hated chatting with him, because my sister was busy playing with her dolls, or chatting with his father's colleague, a handsome young man. Bruno looked out from the window of his room. There was a strange farm where people were working in striped pajamas. Just when he was trying to learn more, he was warned not to approach there. In fact, even the mother didn't know this very well. She thought she was just living next door to a certain labor camp, and her husband concealed the truth that it was the Auschwitz concentration camp, a murder factory.
When Bruno was playing in the garden one day, he accidentally fell and hurt his knee. Pavel, who was working in the kitchen in striped pajamas, rushed over to help him bandage the wound. The two became friends since then. After wandering around the house for a few weeks, Bruno finally decided to cross the boundary and came to a fence made of wire mesh. On the other side of the fence, he saw a boy in striped pajamas pouring gravel in a wheelbarrow. He was surprised that he finally found someone his age who could play together here. Bruno would come here secretly every day to meet his new friend Shmuel.
In the past few weeks, Bruno became more and more confused about what he saw and heard. His family taught him that all Jews were demons, and his relationship with Shmuel became closer. On the other hand, his father decided to send them and his mother to his aunt in Heidelberg. Bruno felt desperate at the thought of never seeing his best new friend again. Shmuel told Bruno that his father had disappeared for three days. Bruno decided to use his last time to do something for him, so he also put on a striped pajamas and crawled into the concentration camp from under a piece of loose barbed wire.
However, ruthless fate made a big joke with the little boy Bruno, and his life will come to an end.

The novel was adapted as Hugo, the protagonist, when the children were younger, regardless of whether the two children inside or outside the wall were completely innocent and made a tragedy with a downward ending. However, the plot organization was too fragmented. The friendship between the two eight-year-old children was not complete. Seeing flowers in the fog

[A] A film with a very unique perspective, the whole process is to see and experience such a tragic history from the vision of an innocent child from a Nazi family. Throughout the film, the symbolic structure of the "cage" appears many times, such as the house blocked by the big iron gate, the vertical fence on the stairs, the closed window, and the crucial "striped pajamas". And the most profound point of the whole film is that most people may put their feelings on the innocent German boy and his Nazi father who was punished after watching it. But it is difficult to realize in this subjective emotion that the little Jewish boy and more Jews are actually more innocent. After being pointed out, I realized that the director used such a clever method to turn the audience into a subconscious "class-conscious" person, which is actually no different from the Nazis in the film. This is the most worthy of the film's admiration.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas quotes

  • Grandma: I sometimes wonder if this is all down to me, making you those costumes for your little plays when you were tiny. You used to adore all that dressing up. Does it still make you feel special, Ralph dear? The uniform... and what it stands for?

Father: Mother. It's a party. Let's not spoil it.

    Grandma: Ha! Me? Spoil things?

Father: [whisper] You should be careful. Airing your views so publicly could land you in trouble. You know that.

  • Grandpa: You know, Ralf, your mother really is sick. She's been talking about this visit for weeks.

Mother: Maybe that's what's made her sick.
