The film is the third work produced by director Hun Jang, who has directed the films "Movies are Movies" and "Brothers".
The screenwriter 박상연 is also the original novel author of "JSA Common Security Area", and is represented as "Queen of Seondeok".
The film was established in September 2010. The actors gave up the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday and officially started filming in Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do in October.
The film cost a lot of money to realize the war scenes, with a total of 14,000 people (including 500 stuntmen) and 45,000 guns. Only one blast scene used 61 real guns, more than 500 model guns, 240 kilograms of explosives, and 24,000 rounds of detonators.
The selection of the film also took a lot of trouble. After traveling all over the country's large and small mountains and islands, including Jeju Island, Ulleungdo, Dokdo and other places, the final selection of Baekam Mountain is 650 meters above sea level in Hamyang County, Gyeongsangnam-do.
All the actors participated in five weeks of military training. In addition to physical training, they also participated in real gun shooting training and small-scale simulation exercises.
After more than four months of filming, the crew started planting trees in Baeam Mountain, Hamyang County, Gyeongsangnam-do, South Korea, in order to recover the damage caused by the shooting of the war scene.
