The film is based on the real event "Chavo Cannibal Lion" that occurred in East Africa at the end of the 19th century. At that time, the British 123 was developing in the colony and planned to build a 580-mile railway. Just when the last railway bridge was being built, this terrifying incident of the lion endangering the crowd broke out, and the construction was forced to stop. To this day, the story of The Ghost and The Darkness is still circulated across the African continent like a legend.
The film was filmed in South Africa. For this, 380 staff members spent more than four months of labor. Five lions were used to join the filming. They were from California, France and Canada, all of which were well-trained. And their outstanding performance in the film is believed to be obvious to all. The whole film lingers in an atmosphere of killing and horror, as if to lead the audience back to the original continent a hundred years ago, and personally experience the mystery and horror of the original African grasslands.

A movie I liked very much in college, the atmosphere was tense, I watched it a few times, and then I realized that it was adapted from the real book "The Ogre of Tsavo".

I first learned about the Tsavo Killing Lion in the documentary, and I also saw the specimen in Field. This movie is exaggerated. It was an old, shedding male lion, and at first glance I thought it was a lioness.

The Ghost and the Darkness quotes

  • [after they discover the Lion's Den filled with skeletons, and are terrified]

Charles Remington: Lions don't do this. Lions... never had a lair like this. They're doing it for the pleasure.

John Patterson: They'll know we've been here.

  • Samuel: Mzee! John! Where do you think you're going?

John Patterson: [John cocks his rifle] I'm going to sort it out.

    [He fires a shot]

    John Patterson: I'm going...

    [He fires again]

John Patterson: to sort it out.

[He shoots into the air, again, walks onto the bridge, and continues firing]
