The conflict between outsiders and local rules, the shaping of rigid roles, the self-worth of the heroine, the breakthrough of the separation between male and female protagonists, the expression of each line is sloppy, always revolving around the periphery and incompetent. . . . The movie itself is not hot enough. If you only look at the plot lines, William Faulkner's original book should be an epic involving two generations of farms and new foreign forces, but the movie itself does a good job of rendering the hot and humid southern farms.
