Fernandois a lonely The Ornithologist and an atheist. He was rescued by two Chinese girls on a pilgrimage after he was accidentally swept away by rapids as he walked along a river in northern Portugal trying to find the endangered black stork. Because the two Chinese girls thought Fernando had no faith, they tied him to a tree. After sneaking away in the middle of the night, he witnessed a group of people performing a bizarre religious ceremony and killing a pig. He then meets a shepherd named Jesusand has sex with him. Afterwards, he had an argument with Jesus, and in the process of arguing, he accidentally killed Jesus. It started out as "Strange "Birds" by the Lake", and later became "Unfamiliar "Men and Women" by the Lake".
