Fernandois a lonely The Ornithologist and an atheist. He was rescued by two Chinese girls on a pilgrimage after he was accidentally swept away by rapids as he walked along a river in northern Portugal trying to find the endangered black stork. Because the two Chinese girls thought Fernando had no faith, they tied him to a tree. After sneaking away in the middle of the night, he witnessed a group of people performing a bizarre religious ceremony and killing a pig. He then meets a shepherd named Jesusand has sex with him. Afterwards, he had an argument with Jesus, and in the process of arguing, he accidentally killed Jesus. Before long, he is plunged into a dark and eerie jungle, gradually escaping into a series of unimaginable events, where reality is gradually infiltrated by fantasy
