"The Rookie" is about a true legend about a dream come true. The main character, Jim Morris (played by Dennis Quaid), grew up dreaming of showing his abilities in Major League Baseball , but 12 years ago he had an unexpected shoulder Injured, so his professional baseball career was cut off from the dream, so he had to give up this long-standing dream, to serve as their chemistry teacher and baseball team coach in a high school in Big Lake, Texas, and also married and had children. Family has become the most important element in his life, and that distant dream of professional baseball is now farther and farther away from him. However, in 1999, the Morris coach made a bet with his students because of , actually changed his career from now on! The high school baseball team has been defeated again and again, and morale has fallen to the bottom. In order to motivate the high school students in the baseball team, Coach Morris agreed to a challenge given by the students. When the baseball team wins, he returns to the game and joins the Major League Baseball! Seeing that the coach actually agreed to this challenge, the group of students were all excited, so they went all out, but they did not expect to perform exceptionally in the inter-school competition. Everyone's glasses shocked the schools, and they continued to march toward the statewide intercollegiate ball championship. Now, it's Coach Morris' turn to face the biggest challenge in his life. What he promised the students must be done. However, this road is definitely not easy. With the understanding of his family, he resolutely joined the Major League Baseball. Some of the hottest young players in Major League Baseball regarded the uncle's desire to join at this age as a laughing stock, and even sneered aside with the mentality of waiting to see the joke. It wasn't until he stepped into the pitcher position and showed his hard-working strength that everyone was shocked that this was not a joke, but a legend! With caring for his family's support, with a firm commitment to his students, and more importantly, with his dedication to his dreams, Jim Morris threw a legendary change ball for his tortuous life path!

Joel De La Garza: Coach, let's see you bring one.
Jimmy: Can't. Promised too many doctors.
Joel De La Garza: Come on, coach, one isn't going to kill you. Come on, feed me!
Hunter: Yeah, dad, bring the heat!
Joel De La Garza: [Jim gets himself ready while Joel waits in the catcher's position] Feed me, coach.
[Jim pauses, then winds up and throws his fastball, which audibly whisses by and hits hard into Joel's glove, much to the shock of him and Hunter]
Hunter: Woah!
Joel De La Garza: Coach, where did that come from?
Jimmy: [Smiles] Forgot how good that sounded.
