The film is adapted from real events. The story takes place at Leland Stanford Junior University in the early 1970s . A group of college students conducted a research experiment on human behavior. They were divided into two groups. One group played the role of prison guards and the others played prisoners. Within 24 hours, they began to simulate daily life in the prison. The results prove that prison guards who play in the context of the mock prison, began to become violent , while others planned to play prisoner revolt. The experiment was halted soon, but the results of its research have been concerned for many years and have caused widespread controversy.
