Director Costa-Gavras's father was persecuted by the Greek authorities for being suspected of being a Communist Party. Costa-Gavras spent his childhood under political discrimination and white terror. At the age of 19, he went into exile in Paris. In 1967, when the Greek military group staged a right-wing coup d'etat, he happened to read the novel "Z" by Vassilis Vassilikos. After reading this novel reflecting the "Lambrakis incident" in Greece, Costa-Gavras was filled with righteous indignation and a sense of political responsibility, and immediately decided to move the novel to the screen to reveal the truth of the "Lambrakis incident". Attack the Greek dictatorship. The film's co-writer George Sampran is a Spanish political exile, and composer Mikis Theodorakis was also arrested in the Greek military coup. Due to the sensitivity of the subject matter, the producers were reluctant to take risks. The director only managed to obtain funding from a French friend and a film company in Algeria. The film started shooting in Algeria at a cost of more than 700,000 US dollars. The director, in his own name, used a subtitle at the beginning of the film to indicate that "all these similarities with the real situation of the dead and the living are by no means accidental". Echoing the opening, the film ends with two stop-motion photos side by side, one of "Z" played by Yves Montand and the other of Lambrakis's portrait, superimposed with the caption "He's alive" to show This public tribute to the assassinated political activist. The film's political stance led to its ban from release in Greece  .

"If there is any similarity, it is purely intentional." In 1967, while returning to Greece, Gavras read the novel about the assassination of the left-wing congressman Ramblakis, and immediately put it on the screen. It restores historical events with detective film techniques and half-hidden and half-revealing narrative skills, and gives this political thriller a comedy transformation (for example, reporters collect suspects, military high-ranking officials are questioned in turn), and then turn sharply after the climax of the delightful banter Next, expose the most ruthlessly dark nature of politics.

Fast, brutal and dark humor. The prosecutor played by Trintignant is so handsome and unselfish, so although the director uses the last minute to tell you the ruthless reality, the first two hours still make you happy in the movie. How could Jacques Behan be so cute when he was young (but people can't be seen, so cute is the producer of this film, who is responsible for bringing up the golden statues of Owai--)

    Nick: Secret group?

    Le photojournaliste: Yes, CROC.

Nick: Everybody knows 'em. The cops use 'em to keep order during state visits.

  • Le procureur: You must settle this quickly. The city, the country, even the world is watching and waiting. Our country's honor is at stake. Forget about these lowlifes. Your future lies before you. This case can take you very far or break your career. Take it from someone who knows.
