      Private mystery

This is an out-and-out good movie. From scene selection to shooting techniques, unique narrative methods to avant-garde editing, the depth of the film and the charm of the actors are all convincing. Knowing that this is an old movie 70 years ago, I can't imagine that this is the first work...

10/10. The complicated and gorgeous scheduling tension is indeed endless. The ceiling is combined with the big upward shot. This kind of environment is heavily depressed, and the visual experience of the weird and strong characters shows Kane's bossy and coldness towards his friends and wife. In the famous dance scene, the space is diagonally cut. Divided into a dancing girl band venue and a long table where guests gathered at the bottom right, Li Lun and Burns are in the foreground and Kane dances with the dancing girls in the background. The scene forms a false carnival in a sense of openness, just like Kane reading a manifesto. When his face was covered by shadows, his ideals and love were false. The people around Kane were like the sculptures he collected madly but never cared about, only used to satisfy control and vanity. The arrangement of the objects and the position of the characters have clear connotations. The foreground is medicine, and the background is Kane’s approach to Susan, who is lying in bed. It can be seen that Kane’s compulsion is the cause of Susan, when Susan leaves Kay. Enshi's prospect is a doll, which also shows that Kane's love for Susan is equivalent to possession of objects; the visual elements of the transition are not connected, and the montage of the dining table and puzzles is concise to explain the frustration of the two marriages. Gothic, mysterious, unrepeatable and perfectionist boutique.

Rosebud not only refers to the layered multi-angle narrative structure, but also has a philosophical depth: at the end, when the rosebud pattern on the snowboard is quenched, we understand that the "center" is inaccessible, and does not even exist. All words collide. All in vain. Great depth of field lens + exquisite narrative device.

    • Charles Foster Kane: The news goes on for 24 hours a day.
