On Christmas Day, December 25, 1977, at 4 o'clock in the morning, Chaplin passed away peacefully in Switzerland. People express their admiration for him in various ways.
The poet Aragon praised: "These films used to be like the light of our century, the whole world, and the history of our time. I don't know if there was ever a man with eyes like his that made us see the ugliest at the same time. The soul and the most tender gaze.” The
Soviet film master Eisenstein said: “In Modern Times, Chaplin helped everyone see a new era of our time.”
