I have to say that the idea of this film is very novel. In order to reduce the rising crime rate, the American government has set a 12-hour vent day once a year. During these 12 hours, human beings have returned to the primitive jungle society, and all the achievements of human civilization—morality and law have been disabled, and strength has become the only criterion for measuring status. I have to say that the U.S. government, or the director Shen Yan, has been proven to use an excellent principle to control the flood through Dayu—blocking is worse than sparse.
But has the delineation of cleansing days really vented animalistic desires, cleaned the soul, and lowered the crime rate? In my opinion, the answer is no. The reasons are as follows:
First, since human beings have mastered production tools to improve productivity from primitive society and entered ancient society, the gap between the rich and the poor has been deeply engraved in their bones, not to mention American society in 2022. The government's purge plan is just a blatant slaughter of vulnerable groups, as can be seen from the kidnapping of the five pigs' feet and forced to become the prey of the rich man's hunter's game. The annual Purge Day is a massacre for the poor, but a grand game for the rich that only costs $200,000.
Second, from another point of view, the couple in the film was killed. The couple was originally against the purge, but joined the purge team in order to avenge her boyfriend. Human nature is actually very fickle, but all changes are traceable, that is, to vent their desires. It is conceivable that if the lover girl did not die in revenge, she would accept the wrath of the slain friend or partner for the next year. When is the time for retribution? In this way, the cleaning team will continue to grow. Therefore, cleansing actually increases the crime of society.
Although it is written in the film that the crime rate has decreased, I think that it is only superficial, but in essence, there will be more and more people hiding the introduction of crime, until the achievements of human civilization are completely destroyed.
In the end, the game has deteriorated, and only poor people who are considered to be unable to create value die. The masks of the masked killers are the only horror elements in this film. The ugly and terrifying masks reflect the ugly hearts of the killers. Under the masks of civilization, they are covered up. On the night of the cleansing of the lost civilization, they did not hide it and exposed it naked!
Finally, I will complain about the god mother and daughter in the play. Can the daughter cry every time she speaks? I feel really uncomfortable watching it. What does the male protagonist like about her? Money shines...
