The plot setting is reversed twice, the lines of Woody Allen's locomotive are interesting, the art to the soundtrack has a strong sense of the 1920s, and the actors are also hardworking, but the male and female protagonists are so different, the audience would rather watch the wisdom of the aunt or the magician. Subtle friendship... So the casting is really important, how good it would be if Uncle Colin in 1995 played this Emma, or Emma in 2025 played this Uncle Colin.

Exaggerated characters, empty themes, intentionally left flaws in the plot, and a reversal that finally returns to mediocrity after a long circle... In the hands of a smart person, it may not make you happy knowing that you are being tricked. Woody Allen uses this film, not the story in the film, to ask the audience: Do you really believe in love, or anything? So...why not?
George: I had an interesting chat with Mr. Taplinger, as he's called. I'd say he has a classic neurotic personality disorder. Brilliant parents who didn't get along, closer to his aunt than his mother, obsessed with mortality, believes in nothing, finds life to have no meaning. Just a perfect depressive, with everything sublimated into his art, and he is quite an artist. He began as an escape artist. Interesting choice if anyone ever wanted to escape from reality. But, like Freud, he will not permit himself to be seduced by childish thoughts just because they're more comforting. Very unhappy man. I like him.
