A master storyteller.
In "Volver", filthy scandals run through the beginning and end, but in the film only brilliant tones and tenderness can be seen.
Only female themes, blind to masculine values. Men appear only as injuries and are quickly cut off. The half of the world that lacks masculinity is still healthy and intimate, able to solve all troubles independently and live in harmony.
Almodovar's "extreme" is not expressed in the feelings of bitterness and hatred and compassion for the world. It is the same as the usual method of many European directors: disdain for crimes and disasters, and easily resolve them. This shows the power of man. Noble power, and evil power.
"Return" has beauties, beautiful scenery, and good music. The performance is superb, the narrative is fluid, and it dissolves Almodóvar's stubborn prejudice and ego into the invisible. This film is an excellent teaching material for diverting the audience's attention. Set up a suspense, set off another suspense, and then quietly turn the suspense into a trivial matter, with more energy to solve a bigger problem. In the end, what you can't resist is the emotional destination brought out by "Return".
