sit back and ignore the truth

I've heard of "An Inconvenient Truth" for a while, because the story is about former US President Al Gore, and because it was so successful, he won the Nobel Peace Prize. But I didn't watch the film until my English teacher asked us to write a review based on it as an assignment. So it's hard to imagine how much a documentary can be made to attract such attention. I finally watched the film a few days ago and decided to talk about my feelings in two parts: first, the facts; second,

a lot of scenes in the story structure film were spent on China, because China has a large population and is in a period of rapid economic development. At this stage, industrial pollution and energy consumption are just following the old road of the West. As Gore quoted Churchill's famous saying: Humans have come to the age of self-reliance. China is also beginning to be punished. At the beginning of the year, a heavy snowstorm hit southern China, paralyzing traffic, daily life, and industrial production, causing huge economic losses and a huge ecological crisis. In the film, Gore mentioned in his public speech that global warming will lead to an increase in precipitation and lead to floods. Now, the period of precipitation is more abnormal, appearing in winter and evolving into snow, which is equally harmful. After the disaster, experts from the China Meteorological Administration issued a research statement stating that the cause of the disaster was nothing but climate warming (El Niño).

In addition, there is one thing that worries me about China's environmental issues, which is also mentioned in this film: frozen soil. Under the banner of developing the economy of the Tibetan area and strengthening the connection between the Tibetan area and the mainland, the Chinese government invested a huge amount of money and mobilized a huge amount of manpower to build the Qinghai-Tibet Railway. The Qinghai-Tibet Railway passes through a large area on the plateau permafrost. For example, Gore said that the driving of trucks on permafrost has a great impact on the permafrost environment, and in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, trains are many times heavier than trucks... Although before the construction of the railway, the Chinese government declared , Chinese scientists have already learned about the permafrost problem, but everyone knows that the ecological crisis is slowly emerging over time. Moreover, such a large-scale project on frozen soil is unprecedented, and the theoretical support is not enough.

This documentary has given me a lot of inspiration from the above two points. I personally think that China is a little short-sighted in terms of economic development. Although we have signed the Kyoto Protocol, there is a big question mark about whether it has been implemented.

When it comes to the story structure of the film, I think it's handled very well. The introduction of the main topic borrows fragments from Gore's personal life (son's car accident, sister's death due to cancer), while telling the public's attention to environmental issues When the degree changes, it brings in his political life, which I guess is why he won the Peace Prize for the film, not the Environment Prize (if there is one). The interweaving of scientific evidence with personal experience and political life also makes this film more vivid and enjoyable than documentaries of the same theme. And the cute frog at the end of the movie left a deep impression on me, hehe, I didn't understand why at first, put it in cold water and gradually warm it up, it won't jump out, and then I remembered that it is a cold-blooded animal , body temperature changes with the outside world. You must know that human beings are not cold-blooded, so in 2003, more than 10,000 people in France died of heat...

Good propaganda (propaganda). Another: The president who was sacrificed in "The Day After Tomorrow" alludes to Al Gore (Vice President insinuates Cheney).

Gore's appeal is really strong, of course, he holds the data and facts in his hand. The interspersion of Gore's personal life may be maliciously speculated as unclear motives, and doubts should disappear in the face of such an excellent environmental documentary that awakens the public.

An Inconvenient Truth quotes

  • Al Gore: If we accept that this problem is real, maybe it's just too big to do anything about. And, you know, there are a lot of people who go straight from denial to despair without pausing on the intermediate step of actually doing something about the problem.

  • Al Gore: If we use more efficient electricity appliances, we can save this much off of the global warming pollution that would otherwise be put into the atmosphere. If we use other end-use efficiency, this much. If we have higher mileage for cars, this much. And all these begin to add up. Other transport efficiency, renewable technology, carbon capture and sequestration. A big solution that you're gonna be hearing a lot more about. They all add up, and pretty soon we are below our 1970 emissions.
