Mercy Mercy

I just finished watching this film today, and I really feel a lot. I don't want to go into too much detail about the plot of the film. But I still have feelings for the core theme of the film. Tell it here.
When the film's two "psychics" confront each other at the home of the next victim. John (the psychic a) said that in the last moment of each person's life, even a moment, a minute, a second is precious, and no matter how painful it is, it is a beautiful fragment. (Probably so, the specific lines are not important)
But when the serial killer (psychic b) asked him: "Is it the same for your daughter?", he had a hard time refuting. Because he was like the killer who came to save his daughter from pain.
This is not actually an issue of euthanasia, "euthanasia" is to use humane methods to end the life process of the patient in a pain-free state at the request of the patient and his relatives and friends and approved by the doctor. But this is not the same, this is forced "euthanasia" without the patient's knowledge, it is murder, but with an unusual motive. The serial killer also said that he is not a psychopath, nor is he a childhood shadow, and there is no need for him to lie about it.
It all comes down to his psychic abilities.
He can feel the struggles and pains of these people before they die, and because he feels the same way, this also makes him suffer for a long time, so he can only achieve his own liberation by ending the suffering of these people. However, as I said before, he is a normal person, and this act of "helping others out of pain" is still murder. So he was caught up in a self-mortification predicament, which was equally painful to him, and which he couldn't stop.
Until, John intervened in the case, he found a good opportunity. He wanted to end his own suffering by the hand of this other psychic, just as he would end the suffering of others. So, there is the scene on the subway.
I don't want to discuss the question of whether John will inherit his mantle.
Because it is almost certain.
John had said before that the serial killer's psychic abilities were stronger than his. However, in pursuit of him, the killer's words to him repeatedly: focus.
In the end, John finally exerted his superpower and found the killer's next target. At this time, his ability was actually the same as that of the killer.
That is to say, before, John didn't see clearly the future of others, but now, he already knows the future of the people around him. At this time, the problem facing the killer fell on him.
This is the fault of this ability, because of the supernatural nature of this ability, so that these two people are caught in a moral contradiction. Is it compassion to help others get free, or is it compassion to see others die in pain?
Fortunately, this ability does not exist.
But what do you do when faced with such a choice?

Hopkins' performance is still worth watching. . Then this film actually discusses euthanasia, which is actually quite meaningful. . . On the screen side, I want to complain that the screen that suddenly appeared is like a song MV clip, which is a little embarrassing. .

High expectations for the duel between the two movie kings, but unfortunately the plot is not very good, the killer and the detective are actually the same kind of people.
