About surrealism

This is, to me, the single most disturbing shot ever(much HARDER than Mulholland Dr)
I try to understand the symbolism in the movie;but soon i found that i've got the wrong side. it is what it is. It's based on the dreams of Bunuel and Dali, created to demonstrate how our minds create meaning for things that have none.
Surrealism has no purpose, thats the point.(And so does Bunuel said it in many interviews, only in the last edition of the screenplay he kind of accepts that he was trying to envelope the filling that you have when you want to kill somebody) Is only images of the director. And it funny, because many of the Surrealism circle where before part of de Dadaist circle
let's talk about its value
Up until Un Chien Andalou, (i mean in 1920s)films were largely based on cheap thrills, some humor and famous stories, sort of like today only a bit smarter. There was no departure from that norm.science fiction which could also be found in books. But surrealism was new, it barely existed anywhere, least of all in film. Who would have dared tackle something so strange and new? Enter Louis Bunuel and Salvador Dali.
So, in the end, Un Chien Andalou does have its ( historical) value, but it could easily be confused with useless and pretentious pieces which some classify as art.

I don't understand it at all. The slow motion of that era is really a blast. The works that can be circulated must be controversial works~
