Extremely realistic immersion

In Cannes 2015, the Coen brothers were a discerning choice when they awarded the Grand Jury Prize to the Hungarian director's debut feature. Although it is a common theme of the Nazi massacre of Jews during World War II, the film is different from the traditional shooting method, abandoning the common perspective of God's omniscience, and narrating from the perspective of a special Jewish person. Using a narrower frame, almost the entire film uses a shallow focus lens, so that the audience's field of vision is limited to the characters and environments around the protagonist. The director intentionally blurs out the bloody and brutal violence that is close at hand, but conveys invisible events through sound, creating a strong sense of suspense without knowing it. . This extremely realistic immersion makes the audience have a deeper impression of the cruelty and ruthlessness of the Nazis, and on the other hand, expands the relative limitations of such genres. Although the veracity of the story is compromised by an overly coincidental plot design, this audiovisual experimentation reminds me of Nolan's "Dunkirk" last year. It is also the theme of war, and the filming methods of suspense themes are used with the same purpose, which effectively attracts the attention of the audience, and at the level of reflecting on the war, there is also a more humane experience.

Don't go to the theater alone. As expected, the experience of watching movies is very uncomfortable as described in the media. It makes my chest tight and depressing. The semi-first-person perspective and the processing of the virtual focus of the perspective not only allow people to follow the male lead to see all kinds of cruelty in the camp, but also not to be frightened by the too bloody perspective. Towards the end of the movie, I hate the male lead, but after the end, I understand that there are some greater things worthy of redemption.

Through difficult cinematography and an expressive soundtrack, [Son of Saul] finds a new language for Holocaust cinema. Its power comes entirely from its form, and the out-of-focus brutality is made all the more horrific by its extremely cramped camera perspective. But its story level is lackluster, and Sol's dead horse's behavior as a living horse's doctor is naturally for self-salvation and meaning creation. The image of the so-called "son" is only a structure, and there is no room for improvement.
